Our history

We started off in 2014 as the ELLY Appeal

The ELLY Appeal

The ELLY Appeal was set up in 2014 to improve access to maternal healthcare through education, research and training both locally in East London and around the world. Partnerships have been developed in both Africa and Asia where the ELLY Appeal has delivered multiple training courses in some of the poorest communities around the world.

The ELLY Appeal has also supported innovative women’s health research to build knowledge and expertise which informs how optimal care is delivered. This includes patient and public involvement in research.

ELLY becomes a Charity in 2020

In 2020 the ELLY Appeal became a Registered Charity in England and Wales. We are proud to be playing our part to build a better future by aligning our work with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a collection of 17 global goals set by the United Nations.

By providing training and supporting academic research (Goal 4) ELLY Charity will boost healthcare capacity in communities advancing the skills and knowledge of its professionals (Goal 3). In doing this, health professionals will save lives, improve women’s health and support families and communities along the way.
